Power Outages, Fires & Floods

  • KEEP YOUR FOOD SAFE--USDA publication on food safety when there is a power outage, fire, or flood.

  • WILDFIRE AND PRIVATE WATER WELLS--Information for water well owners after a wildfire; what you should look for and what you should do.

  • ELECTRICAL POWER OUTAGES AND ONSITE WASTEWATER SYSTEMS--Precautions that should be taken during a power outage if your septic system has electrical components and information regarding what you should do once power is restored.

  • FLOODS AND WELLS--Drilled, driven or bored wells are best disinfected by a well or pump contractor, because it is difficult for the private owner to thoroughly disinfect these wells.  If you suspect that your well may be contaminated, contact Amador County Environmental Health for specific advice on disinfecting your well.

  • FOOD SAFETY GUIDELINES DURING TEMPORARY POWER OUTAGES--Amador County most likely will be experiencing random, unscheduled electrical power outages.  Appropriate decision-making before, during, and immediately after power outages is necessary to protect consumers from unsafe food and minimize product loss.
