The Building Department Staff at Amador County are committed to serving our customers and we are here to help you move your project through from submittal to final inspection.

Our mission is to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment through the application of the adopted codes.

The Building Department processes building permit applications for construction in the unincorporated area of Amador County, reviews plans, issues building permits, and performs inspections in order to ensure compliance with applicable state and county building codes.

The department also responds to a variety of general inquiries and provides code interpretations where required.

Notice: Beginning on January 1, 2020, the 2019 California Building Codes will be in effect. All building permit submittals received on January 1, 2020 or later shall be reviewed in accordance with the new 2019 California Building Codes.


Installation of back up generators require a building permit. Two inspections are required. The permit fee is $324.50.

Applications are accepted and permits are issued in person or online between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last business day of the month the office closes at 3:00 p.m.
