Cash & check payments are still accepted at the counter for those who do not wish to pay the service fee required when paying with a card.

The Building Department Staff at Amador County are committed to serving our customers and we are here to help you move your project through from submittal to final inspection.

Our mission is to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment through the application of the adopted codes.

The Building Department processes building permit applications for construction in the unincorporated area of Amador County, reviews plans, issues building permits, and performs inspections in order to ensure compliance with applicable state and county building codes.

The department also responds to a variety of general inquiries and provides code interpretations where required.

Notice: Beginning on January 1, 2023, the 2022 California Building Codes will be in effect. All building permit submittals received on January 1, 2023 or later shall be reviewed in accordance with the new 2022 California Building Codes.

RESIDENTIAL back up generators require a building permit. Two inspections are required. The permit fee is $349.22.

COMMERCIAL generators 50 Horsepower or greater will require an "Authority to Construct" application from Amador Air District ($205.92) to be paid and submitted prior to issuing the building permit https://www.amadorgov.org/home/showdocument?id=19487 and fuel tank capacity of 55 gallons or more will require a HAZMAT form to be submitted to Environmental Health prior to issuing the building permit (no fee) https://www.amadorgov.org/home/showdocument?id=8009 and will also require a plan review and inspection from AFPD ($176.00) approval required prior to issuing the building permit. Minimum permit fee starts at $480.68.
