Amador County Public Health confirms one human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Amador County. Outbreaks of WNV occur each summer in the United States and are most commonly transmitted to humans and animals through a mosquito bite from a mosquito harboring the virus. Public Health officials remind the community to take preventative measures to avoid mosquito-borne disease.

Warning released Friday afternoon not to eat Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend of frozen berries sold through Costco stores as they may be linked to a multistate outbreak of hepatitis A. As of June 3, at least 34 cases are being investigated nationwide with seven confirmed illnesses linked to the product in California. No cases have been reported in Amador County.

Amador County Public Health confirms the first West Nile virus (WNV) case this year in Amador County. One case was admitted to Sutter Amador Hospital and diagnosed with neuroinvasive West Nile virus. The individual has been discharged, is recovering at home and continues to improve.

Pertussis (whooping cough) is on the rise in Amador County. In addition to the three cases reported last week, a positive result was received in a health care worker this week. Amador County Public Health and Sutter Amador Hospital are collaborating with the California Department of Public Health in investigating this case.
