The Building Department Staff at Amador County are committed to serving our customers and we are here to help you move your project through from submittal to final inspection.
Our mission is to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment through the application of the adopted codes.
The Building Department processes and issues building permits, reviews and checks plans for all construction in the unincorporated area of the Amador County. This department provides field inspection of projects requiring construction or grading approval and enforces County and State building codes.
The department responds to a variety of general inquiries and provides permit and ordinance interpretation.
Notice: Beginning on Jan. 1, 2017 all of the new 2016 California Building Codes will be in effect, all building permit submittals received on Jan. 3, 2017 (the first business day of 2017 for the county) or later shall be reviewed in accordance with the new 2016 California Building Codes. All substantially complete building permit submittals received by 3:00pm on Dec. 30 (the last business day of 2016) will be reviewed under the current 2013 California Building Codes. In order to be considered a substantially complete building permit submittal to be reviewed under the 2013 codes it must include as a minimum (as applicable) a fully completed building permit application part 1 and part 2, two copies of all drawings including a site plan, foundation plan, floor plan(s), exterior elevations and framing plan. Plans must be to scale and legible. See checklists on website for additional submittal information.

Applications are accepted and permits are issued in person between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last business day of the month the office closes at 3:00 p.m.
